I started this blog mostly to keep me focused and to sort out thoughts. I have a poor habit of starting things and not finishing them, so hopefully this time around will be different! Whether or not these posts are read is irrelevant — the concept of writing ANYTHING in structure helps get me in a writing sort of mood.

Today marks the last day of the 24th week since the Winter Solstice. This week’s rune was Othala, the last rune “Nobility”. An important aspect is to focus on time as a forward arrow — we must appreciate where we are coming from and the resources left to us, but we are to move forwards and make our own way.

I was less than enamoured with the theme around my previous attempt, and I deviated fairly quickly. Rather than begin from something entirely new, I’m taking the characters and setting and shifting it; I’m changing focus and establishing my characters a little deeper before beginning. And a plot structure is being constructed BEFORE there is an attempt at actual writing.

My ideas weren’t necessarily poor, but I was certainly not orchestrating them correctly. As I work out the details of the plot arc, I’ll post a few “character development” shorts. Only 1000 or so words, but hopefully these little pieces will help me figure out who these people are, and how they fit into this story.

That’s all for now — more to come soon, and I doubt if I’m quite done with runes yet. ;-)
