ENDGame; -or- how I got distracted…
2009/06/30
Ahoj!
Well, I made it to 27000 ish words, about 54%. No, that wasn’t the goal, but I also got distracted by the lovliest girl ever on the 17th of June… so I’m beyond caring! ;-)
I’m still interested, and I’ll probably finish this novel up over the next couple of months; here’s hoping. ;-)

18 708 words! 37%
I’m a third of the way through June, and 37% done, so I’m happy! Hopefully my writing won’t slow down in the near future…
I’ve had to re-adjust my original idea a bit. My original plot only led to this point and one more short back story. But, I’m barely at 25 000 words [I've got 7000 ish pre-written]. But, it’s all good! The plot certainly has yet to climax – two new side characters – villains? Well, I guess we’ll find out later… ;-) there’s definitely a secret there, though.
They’ve just reached their goal, only to discover that trading is still an accepted medium – oh dear. Well, I don’t know why they’d think they could just walk in, kill a dozen vampires, and walk out with their king… that’d be anti-climactic. Cool in a movie, mind you. I’d have to give them some gunpowder and silver bullets! Oh wait, no, that’s werewolves.
It’s after midnight and I’m itching for a read, so ‘night night!

10 106/50 000 words! 20%+!
I’ve just introduced my two favourite characters! Hopefully, with my party only missing one member, I can get some interesting dynamics. It’s more complicated to describe a conversation with multiple members, but dialogues some times leave something lacking… Perhaps it’s just me.
All the same, this is a lot more fun than writing has been in the past; evidently, I just needed some structure to get this going!

7 360 words/5 000/50 000.
I’m quite happy with the progress I’m making, and I’m resisting the urge to make any revisions beyond a few grammatical quirks I couldn’t resist… I went on a small blitz and wrote two dialogue chapters, one flowing pretty naturally into the other.
I basically have one main framing story, with two nested stories [one in the middle, one near the end] and a fourth story running ‘parallel’ to the others [temporally before the other three], which functions as a prologue of sorts. But, after writing this ‘prologue’ for 7 chapters and driving it to an important finish, I didn’t think it particularly exciting, and one needs to start the book with a bang! So, I’ll likely revise it and cut it into bits, spreading it throughout the book if I can find an appropriate way to do so…
But, that was what I had written before I joined the contest, and on June the 1st at 12:15 am, I set off on what has now become my “main” story; I wasn’t sure how important it would be, or whether it would just be necessary background and setting for the other tales. But, I have to say that I am enjoying the characters involved and the conversations between them seem to just come… naturally! Which, even if I am an amateur, I think is pretty significant.
Oh, and of course the four stories are all co-related. Without too many details, the main framing story is about the exiled son, the first story about his grandfather, and the last story about his father; the “prologue” gives information on the life and death of the [unrelated by blood] character which intersects all their lives. So, I can drift from one story to the next with relative ease, as long as I keep my story straight. Perhaps it’s an odd writing style, but it does break any monotony.
As a point of curiosity, I cannot write without background music. The past three days have been brought to you by “Тату” and “Легкие, Юлии Савичевы”; Tatu, and Yulia Savicheva’s “Lyogkiye [Easygoing]” for all you non-Slavic readers.
Link to the latter song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akkPCP-5tuI I can’t attest to the accuracy of the Spanish translation.
I’m not sure how this affects the writing, but I love listening to this song – good rhythm, and very cute lyrics.

So, I’ve just written another chapter in an uncomfortable chair on a computer that lacks MS word… gorgeous! I’ll add the txt file to the major one once I get a hold of the real computer. Yes! Of course.
So, I’m at 2 604/50 000. I’ve fulfilled my daily quota of 1667 and even gone half over; I’m good for today! 50 000 is very daunting, but I’m thinking I could actually do it… someone has, apparently? I assume “cryofheaven” just made a typo with 87920 words… By my count, that’s forty hours straight of 36 words-per-minute writing sans interruption. 8792 is only 3.6 words-per-minute, though. Quite reasonable!
In regards to my story, I’m spending a lot more time detailing things I thought I would have had to rush through… Which is nice, because that means I have more to pick and choose from in a final editing process. Also, I’m glad the story has a few relative arcs – once I get tired of one, I can continue another with renewed vigour! Although, I’m not sure how to interweave these arcs in the final edition… but, I’ll have plenty of time for that later.
Good luck to you all,
And good night; your crazy Kiwi timezone is out of sync with my own…
PS: Spellcheck things “vigour” is a typo; curse its American imperialist agenda!

After an hour and a half of writing, I’m now at 1402 words; I want to keep writing, but I also like sleep… I guessi t’s a good sign, and so far enjoyable! Thanks, Maui ;-) Everyone beware my vampire stick!

I’m working on a novel, working title: “Blood Royale.” I’ve asked for advice on my style, and I’m too particular; I edit too soon and too frequently before I even finish!
So, on the advice of my good Kiwi friend, I’ve joined SoCNoc, a writing challenge whereby I have to write 50 000 words within the bounds of the month of June! So, no time for editing – write, write, write!
This blog will track anything particularly odd about the experience.
I have 7853 words that are written BEFORE June, and thus don’t count; so, even though I’m a few chapter in, I’ve completed ZERO words.
Cheers!
